The statistics around sexual violence in Saskatchewan can shock some: At a rate of 104 sexual assaults per 100,000 people, Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates of sexual violence in Canada. On average, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men in Canada will experience sexual violence in their lifetime - those rates stretch even higher for marginalized groups like 2SLGBTQIA+ people, newcomers, and people with disabilities. Here at Regina Sexual Assault Centre, we are not shocked by these statistics: we see them every day. We know them through the faces of the individuals who take the brave step to ask for help and seek counselling and support through our organization. We know them through the consistent waitlist for services we’ve had since 2018. And we know them through the complex traumas and intersections of harm experienced by those impacted by sexualized violence that our organization seeks to address and prevent.
What we also know, through those same stories and statistics, is that healing is possible - and anything is possible when the right people, resources, and communities support you. Our supporters and donors are a fundamental part of that community. Donations make up 30-35% of our annual revenue, and the funds raised are integral in ensuring we can provide industry-leading trauma-informed therapeutic care to everyone and anyone impacted by sexualized violence at no cost. Our donors become part of the healing journey clients take when they enter the doors at RSAC, by making the work possible - it’s not just fundraising, it’s fundHEALING.
Every donation you make to RSAC is MORE than a donation to us - it is the seed that grows into real, tangible, and lasting growth for those we serve. Every gift, even a simple five dollars, has a direct impact. That’s why our FundHEALING campaign invites you to donate to the specific needs of our organization. Read below to see how your donation funds healing at RSAC.

We provide trauma-informed counselling to children as young as five. Our therapist uses their extensive knowledge, experience, and training in therapeutic play and child EMDR to help children heal from trauma. As children navigate their time in counselling, they develop toolkits and resources to help them feel safe and supported, and see their own strengths and progress. By funding a children’s progress kit, you are helping a young person impacted by sexualized violence have all the tools they can to navigate healing. Progress kits include simple items like folders for artwork and writing, grounding tools and fidget toys, worksheets and positive affirmation cards.

One unique approach is sand tray therapy, where clients of any age can use the figurines and sand to create a safe and contained reflection of their own life, have inner dialogue, explore their past and present experiences and traumas and gain self-awareness. As our therapists employ this therapy tool in a way that best meets the complex needs and experiences of clients, we are always seeking to add more tools to this therapeutic method. Your donation helps provide the figurines and symbolic items used in sand tray therapy.

EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a gold standard psychotherapy approach used to treat trauma. EMDR works by helping individuals access traumatic memories in a safe setting, combining bilateral stimulation (BLS) and guided instructions. Accessing the memories helps people with processing and reducing the negative impact of past trauma.
RSAC provides EMDR counselling as an option, and invests in training to ensure our masters educated counsellors have the qualifications to responsibly provide this approach. EMDR counsellors use BLS tools like 'tappers' to deliver this therapy. Currently, our office has only one unit, and as we grow, we hope to increase our inventory of EMDR tools. Your gift helps RSAC purchase these supplies.

Did you know we operate a 24/7 crisis, support, and information line for people impacted by sexual violence? This work is only possible thanks to generous, compassionate, and trauma-informed community volunteers. Volunteers support clients on the phone, and via police or hospital accompaniments related to sexual assault. To ensure volunteers can do this work, RSAC invests 8 hours of extensive training for each volunteer, and helps fund additional training for volunteers when possible. Your $200 gift covers the costs of training a volunteer, and helps us recruit, retain, and appreciate compassionate and caring volunteers.
A Quick Disclaimer: Regina Sexual Assault Centre receives funding from the Provincial Ministry of Justice. In some cases, your donation may be allocated to the area of greatest need, should another area of work already be sufficiently funded within our annual budget.
