Volunteer on our crisis line

Responsibilities

Promptly answer the sexual assault crisis line when a call comes through, and respond accordingly


Provide immediate emotional support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and historical abuse, as well as any secondary victims who may call the line


Facilitate accompaniment to the hospital and police station as requested by the caller


Provide information regarding medical and forensic procedures, and options for reporting to police


Provide survivors the opportunity to make informed choices


Provide information on counselling and other services offered through Regina Sexual Assault Centre and in the community


Provide support and information to family and other support people who are present with the survivor at the hospital and police station


Represent the Regina Sexual Assault Centre in a professional manner and advocate on behalf of the survivor when necessary

Requirements

18+ years of age


Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (Must be within 6 months of applying for volunteer position)


Reside in the Regina area and have access to transportation and a phone
 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, calm and compassionate demeanor


Basic knowledge of sexual violence 


Experience providing support to survivors of trauma would be an asset *

Training

Supporting Survivors of Sexualized Violence Training


Scenario and role-play training


Additional training opportunities, as needed (SafeTalk, ASIST, etc)

Application Process

Application: Fill out an application and submit it to rsac@sasktel.net

Interview: After completion and review of the application, selected applicants will be scheduled for an interview with the coordinator. This gives us a chance to learn more about you as well as an opportunity for you to learn more about the program.

Acceptance: After an interview and reference check, all volunteers will be informed by the coordinator if they have been accepted into training.

Training: 7.5 - Supporting Survivors of Sexualized Violence Training + approx. 2.5 hours scenario training. All training sessions must be attended.

Volunteer with our kids on the block program

Responsibilities

Assist with delivering child safety and abuse prevention education to elementary school students Grades K - 5.


We are so proud of our Kids on the Block program and are looking for people who are committed to child safety to help us deliver these presentations in schools.  If you've ever wanted your inner actor to shine, here is a chance to use your skills and create some positive change.  Volunteers who are interested are provided with education about child safety and training to be a puppeteer.  You will be well supported by our staff Education and Outreach person and will receive a small honorarium for each presentation you assist with.  We will schedule you for presentations according to your availability, so this is ideal for university students, people who are retired and those with flexible work schedules!  Contact us to learn more!

Requirements

Training: Training is approximately 14 hours and volunteers must complete this before helping with presentations.
