The statistics around sexual violence in Saskatchewan can shock some: At a rate of 104 sexual assaults per 100,000 people, Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates of sexual violence in Canada. On average, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men in Canada will experience sexual violence in their lifetime - those rates stretch even higher for marginalized groups like 2SLGBTQIA+ people, newcomers, and people with disabilities.
Here at Regina Sexual Assault Centre, we are not shocked by these statistics: we see them every day. We know them through the faces of the individuals who take the brave step to ask for help and seek counselling and support through our organization. We know them through the consistent waitlist for services we’ve had since 2018. And we know them through the complex traumas and intersections of harm experienced by those impacted by sexualized violence that our organization seeks to address and prevent.
What we also know, through those same stories and statistics, is that healing is possible - and anything is possible when the right people, resources, and communities support you. Our supporters and donors are a fundamental part of that community. Donations make up 30-35% of our annual revenue, and the funds raised are integral in ensuring we can provide industry-leading trauma-informed therapeutic care to everyone and anyone impacted by sexualized violence at no cost. When you donate to RSAC, you become a transformative part of a healing journey. Join us and give today.
